Inquire About a Senior SessionThis is for you if...
Every senior session moves across multiple locations and outfit changes, because it takes more than one setting to capture all the facets that make them who they are.
We meet in person, parent and student, before we ever pick up a camera, so the session is built around what actually delights them.
Hi, I'm Joan
My name is Joan, and I'm a fine art portrait photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, trained in New York City studios in fashion and magazine photography. I bring high-end studio techniques to senior portraiture, so the photos don't just look like a yearbook shot. They feel like your senior.
You'll walk away with more than photos. You'll have artwork that captures exactly who your senior is right now, before they head off to whatever's next.
I photograph seniors throughout the East Bay, including Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, and Alamo, and I travel internationally for portrait commissions.

How a senior session works
We meet and plan
Parent and student, in person, before I ever pick up a camera. We talk through art direction and what actually delights your senior, then plan locations around their real life — their dance studio, home field, a public court, or an alley with character that we scout together.
The session
This is the fun part. We head out on an adventure together, bound for the locations that make your dream session real, your home field, dance studio, wherever tells your story. Multiple stops, outfit changes in between, built around making something memorable. Sessions usually run about three hours, though timing flexes depending on what we're creating together.
Ordering appointment
I'll hold your hand through the whole process, from picking your favorite images to choosing wall art made to fit your home. You'll walk away with portraits you love on your walls for generations. If you've added an album, I design it afterward from the favorites you select.
On location, East Bay
Heirloom wall art
Before you choose anything, I mock up your senior's portrait in a photo of your actual wall, so you know exactly how it will feel in your home.
Custom albums
Senior sessions can also be built into a custom archival album, a keepsake of this exact chapter before they head off to whatever's next.
Every senior, every style

Good to know
When should I book my senior portrait session?
It depends on when your senior is actually available. If they play a fall sport, summer before senior year usually works best. Many schools also need yearbook photos by October of senior year, so we work backward from your school's deadline and your senior's schedule.
Where do sessions take place?
Wherever is meaningful to your senior. A dancer might be photographed at their studio, a soccer player on their home field, a basketball player at a public court instead of the school gym. If nothing specific comes to mind, I'll scout a location with the right character just for them. Studio portraits can be part of the mix too.
Are family portrait sessions included?
Yes, depending on the package you choose. We'll talk through what's included on our initial discovery call.
Ready?
Senior sessions book quickly, especially in summer and fall. Reach out and let's plan something that celebrates your senior in their style.
